Ramp up your business by attending conferences

I returned early this morning from Las Vegas. No, I wasn’t gambling. Instead, I attended No Excuses Summit 3, one of two annual events for the network marketing community. And what an event it was.

Two and one-half days of solid training. We heard from many of the industry’s top leaders (Ray Higdon, Todd Falcone, Sonia Stringer, Pam Herrmann, Jonathan Budd, and others), and had the chance to go one-on-one with several during the breakout sessions.

Industry conferences offer you a chance to learn, be inspired, and grow in a very supportive environment. Presentations are geared to teaching you how to enhance your business.

Corporate gifts and apparel enhance morale and brand image

We’ve all attended conferences and other business functions during which individuals were recognized for outstanding performance or other noteworthy accomplishments.

Those may seem like routine affairs, but they actually play a crucial role in the development of employee morale and loyalty, according to Tim Geiger, Vice President of Geiger, Inc. in Waukesha, Wis.

“Recognition goes a long way,” he says. Employers and managers should be thankful for a job well done and for length of service. Even suppliers should be recognized on occasion for their role in a business’ success.

Time management tip: Use an agenda

Powerful time management strategy: Use an agenda

Do you use an agenda? If not, you’re missing out a simple but powerful time management tool to make your day more efficient and productive.

If you’re like most people, you have a to do list for work. Some people list the tasks by letter with item “A” being most important, item “B” next, and so on. Others use numbers, and in descending order of importance.

One drawback is that you’re unlikely to spend quality time on each project. Reviewing the list, you instinctively tell yourself that projects A, B, and C are important (and in that order), but do you actually spend time on each?

Or, do you start on A, but fail to devote any time to the other projects? How often do you find yourself spending most of your day on your most important task, but then neglecting all the others?

The solution? Create and agenda. It is one of the more powerful time management strategies you can use. Much like you do for a meeting or conference, set an agenda for your day. Doing so will compel you to spend at least some time on each project. And as a result, you will manage your time better and enjoy a more productive day.

Turn a wrong-number call into a sales call

Wrong-number call a good opportunity to promote your firm

You answer the phone one day only to learn that the caller dialed the wrong number. How do you respond?

Like most people, you probably say, “Oh, I’m sorry, you have the wrong number,” and then hang up. Next time, take advantage of a wrong-number call to make a quick pitch for your business. No “hard sell”; just enough to plant a seed in the caller’s mind.

One day a woman called to place an order on behalf of her firm. I quickly realized that she had the wrong number. Instead of merely hanging up, I used the time to promote my services. The conversation went something like this:

Good customer service starts with the incoming call

How many times have you called a business and encountered the “voice mail tree”? Remember how many layers you had to go through to finally reach a live person? I’ll bet more than once you hung up in frustration. You know that good customer service starts with having a person answer the call.

Now consider this: If your company employs that system, known as an Automatic Call Distributor, your customers and prospects are probably encountering the same situation and acting the same way, by hanging up.

I faced that one day, and it was not fun. Needing some information about my cell phone account, I called my provider. (I should note that I have switched carriers for an unrelated reason, but this incident still offers a lesson.)
